I’m Bored

Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier Pro

My work explores the profound impact of early exposure to the internet and how it shapes thought identity, and daily life in ways older generations may not fully relate to. The internet is a powerful tool, offering limitless knowledge and connection, yet it leaves me questioning: what would I do without it? This question has shaped my artistic practice, particularly as I’ve realized how deeply intertwined my sense of self is with constant digital access.

Bo Burnham’s Inside (2021), specifically the song Welcome to the Internet, served as a major inspiration for this piece. Lyrics like “Could I interest you in everything, all of the time” and “Now look at you, unstoppable, watchable” encapsulate the paradox of having the world at our fingertips yet feeling perpetually overstimulated and disconnected. These sentiments resonated deeply, driving me to explore the overwhelming nature of digital media consumption.

To create this piece, I screen-recorded everything I watched on my phone over a single day and edited the footage into a chaotic, overstimulating montage. The result mirrors the sensory overload of our digital lives, with an intentionally long runtime to emphasize the shortened attention spans we’ve cultivated. By immersing viewers in this overwhelming environment, I aim to reflect not only on the role the internet plays in our lives but also on the personal struggle of navigating creativity, boredom, and overstimulation in the digital age.
